The Graveyard Book is Neil Gaiman's 2009 Newbery Award winning story about a boy named Nobody "Bod" Owens.  Bod is just a toddler when he unknowingly escapes his own murder. 

Leaving behind his slain parents and older sister, baby Bod finds his way to a nearby cemetery where he is met by the ghosts of those buried there.  Realizing the child is in danger, the ghosts decide to adopt the live boy and raise him there in safety.  All goes well until Bod discovers the outside world and yearns to be a part of it. 

He may deal with death, decay, danger and intrigue when he is inside the gates of the graveyard, but he finds all that and more--plus the truth about what happened to his family--on the outside.
